You can launch much larger vehicles which may not be aerodynamic for a launch from Kerbin. By launching from the Mun, you no longer need to worry as much about gravitational forces, aerodynamics, and atmospheric drag. Launching from the Mun will not only save a lot of time in reaching 100%, but makes rocket launching much more simplistic. One of these launch pads is located on the Mun. More importantly the History & Parts DLC includes new launch pads. Each DLC includes new missions, scenarios and parts. It is recommended but NOT REQUIRED you purchase the History & Parts Pack DLC for KSP.
